These complications of asthma could be influenced by poor knowledge, poor use of inhaler technique, non-compliance and negative attitude toward the illness and medications. In children, this problem is completely dependent on asthmatic children’s caregivers. There has been little research exploring the knowledge, attitude and behavior of asthmatic children’s caregivers in Viet Nam. Aims and Objective. This study identifies the socio-demographic characteristics of caregivers and patients (1); identifies the percentage of caregivers having the knowledge, attitude and right behavior about children asthma and taking care of their asthmatic children in Viet Nam(2); identifies the relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics and knowledge, attitude, behavior (3), and identifies the relationship between knowledge, attitude and behavior (4). Design. Cross-sectional descriptive study was used. Methods. In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 96 caregivers of 96 pediatric patients 0 – 15 years old diagnosed with asthma level 2 or higher from the respiratory outpatient department of Childern’s Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from December 1st , 2013 to February 28th, 2014, were interviewed by using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to assess the participant’s knowledge, attitude and behavior on taking care of asthma children. Chi-squared test was used to identify relationship between factors. Results. Totally 100 caregives of asthmatic children were investigated among whom 96 provided valid quesionnaires, the response rate reached 96%. 44.8% of caregivers correctly answered more than 75% of the knowledge questions. 62.5% of caregivers correctly answered more than 75% of the attitude questions and 84.4% of caregivers correctly answered more than 75% of the behavior questions. There is a statistically significant relationship between knowledge, attitude, behavior about asthmatic children and socio-demographic characteristic of caregivers and there is a statistically significant relationship between knowledge, attitude and behavior about asthmatic children of caregivers (p < 0.05). Conclusion. Asthma is a popular condition in children. Asthma can be prevented and controlled. According to the study result, caregivers asthma-related knowledge is limited and they need to follow in instruction to use the device correctly therefore, to help the caregivers having the asthma understand is necessary this will help prevent and control the asthma moreeffectively.
