Ramirez 米愛妮 碩士 銘傳大學 社會與安全管理學系國際事務與安全管理碩士班 102 In every society, non-profit organizations (NPOs) play an important role in a country’s economy by satisfying societal needs not fulfilled by the for-profit sector. Moreover, Taiwan has seen developmental changes allowing for an interest in joining NPOs as a way to give back to the society. Therefore, volunteers are considered indispensable assets in the majority of NPOs and their worth is both fundamental and beneficial for NPOs to learn how to attract, embed, and sustain their volunteers. When NPOs meet these three criteria, they will have a much better impact in their community. The results of this quantitative research outline the effects of volunteers’ goal orientation and service embeddedness on NPO volunteers’ service intention. The research tested four main hypotheses and results revealed three major findings: 1) Volunteers’ goal orientations whether learning or performance goal orientations are positively associated with voluntary service embeddedness; 2) Voluntary service embeddedness is positively associated with volunteers’ service intention; and 3) Voluntary service embeddedness fully mediates the effect of NPO volunteers’ goal orientation on volunteers’ service intention. The next step in NPOs’ efforts to increase voluntary service embeddedness and hence, service intention would be to develop both a support group and ongoing training seminars to maintain current volunteers embedded and to attract potential ones into the NPOs. It would be imperative for the volunteer programs’ administrators to closely monitor whether these programs are meeting the needs and desires of their volunteers as well as to develop a longitudinal study to monitor the long-term influence of such programs on volunteers’ service intention.
