碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用中國文學系碩士在職專班 === 102 === Abstract 　　A novel can reflect the reality of life and convey the author’s feelings in words. While reading a novel, readers can be inspired with some reflection on the problems and phenomena in the society described by the author . 　　Hualing Nieh is a world-famous author who is well respected in the literary arena. Her works went through the thick fog of history, strode across China, Taiwan and America for “three eras”. Though she seldom settled down in one place, she gave thousands of authors a warm home on the way to literature. She is the most important mover and shaker of literary world among Chinese people in 20th century. Opening a window for Taiwanese authors to look outside and forward. Her contributions toward Chinese literature can’t be unnoticed. The thesis focused on Hualing Nieh and her work “the Lost Golden Bell”. There are six parts of the thesis , the summaries of each part are as follows : 　　The first part is a preface, including the motives, purpose of this research. The field and steps of this thesis, in addition, some analyses of former researches. The second part is the introduction of the life track of Hualing Nieh and an investigation of Hualing Nieh’s literary life. At the end of this part is a brief introduction of the novel “The Lost Golden Bell”. The third part covers three topics of “The Lost Golden Bell” The topics are “Get a way”, “Pursuing” “Care of women’s life”. The fourth part is the research of the techniques in the characters created in “The Lost Golden Bell”, including three subjects : images ,personalities, and psychology. The fifth part is about the literary characteristics of “The Lost Golden Bell”. Through the metaphors, emblems, and facts of points used in the novel, The style and esthetics of Hualing Nieh’s writing are presented. The sixth part is the summary and reflection of the above-mentioned researches to manifest the contents, spirits and the unique writing style in Hualing Nieh’s writings .It is the conclusion of the whole thesis depending on the understanding of the essence of Hualing Nieh’s creation and writing style .
