Listening and oral proficiency has been put more emphasis rather than writing proficiency in elementary schools, which may lead to the difficulty for students to link the writing course in junior high schools. Fortunately, with the development of technology, the use of multimedia in teaching materials grows rapidly and many teachers used multimedia videos to improve students' English proficiency. Therefore, in this study, the purpose was to explore the effects of the integration of multimedia materials into English writing instruction in an elementary school. Five sixth graders were involved from an elementary school in Chiayi County, and they synopsized the video after watching it for sixteen weeks. Six instruments were used in this study, including teaching materials, an English achievement test, working sheets, a questionnaire of attitude toward English learning, interviews with the students and classroom logs. The results showed that the implementation of the integration of multimedia materials into English writing instruction significantly enhanced the participants’ writing achievement. The participants also held positive attitudes toward this program although the attitude toward English learning was not significantly different after the treatment. Some pedagogical implications were also provided for the future research.
