This paper explores its applications of as well as the various ideas related to it. Specifically, this paper studies the structural forms and functions of courtyards in traditional architecture, its cultural significance, and also the green concepts embedded in its design. By increasing the understanding of and appreciating the aesthetics and eco-friendliness of a courtyard, that integrated with the human factor aesthetics of the Humanities and Arts architecture of the courtyard, it is hoped that this unique structure can be widely used in modern architecture to inspire innovative thinking and applications in modern ecological construction and green living.
This study analyzes the different ways that courtyards in traditional Chinese houses, Taiwanese townhouses and modern green buildings are used, in hopes of inspiring cultural and ecological design and planning rather than focusing merely on functional requirements in future construction. By understanding the courtyard architecture, it helps people to recognize that "courtyard-building" can be suitable for modern residential areas. In today’s world, it is important to promote ecological construction in combination with cultural creativity. Both the local government and the society need to work together to preserve the original style of courtyards to infuse urban renewal with cultural creativity and regeneration. Refurbishing old houses and utilizing the courtyard architecture to build desirable, eco-friendly, naturally beautiful Taiwanese townhouses filled with cultural elements will improve living quality and preserve the cultural heritage.
