Description
Summary:碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 應用心理學系碩士在職專班 === 102 === In the modern society, gambling games are not uncommon. In Taiwan, following the pass of the article of legal casinos, gamble-related issues have become popular. However, we are not really surprised for being informed by some gambler’s tragic stories about his family and himself. It is a curious question that what actually causes the gambler’s irrationality in a casino and this study aims to find out the answer. Recently, the role of emotion in decision-making has become a hot issue in the academic world. Researchers started to study the influences of various negative emotions, e.g., regret and disappointment, instead of the positive vs. negative emotions, on behavioral outcomes. The study also aims to know the different influences of regret and disappointment on decision-making, but uses a Texas Hold’em Poker game software to reveal the causal relationship in the gambling situation. As the results indicate, the main effect of the type of emotion (i.e., regret vs. disappointment) is significant while the main effect of win or loss or the interaction of these two variables are not. In other words, no matter win or loss, the players with regret emotions are more strongly motivated to do something to change the situation and accordingly make more irrational decisions than those who are disappointed.
