We can make social judgments of trustworthiness from social cues revealed by others. However, in some situations, we have not enough time to understand each other and need to know how to make social judgments from other cues, such as facial features, dressing styles, and even postures and gestures . This study aims to explore the effect of facial feature and facial expression on trustworthiness. In experiment 1, face (wide vs. narrow), chin (wide vs. thin), brow ridge (down vs. up), cheekbones (shallow vs. pronounced), and nose sellion (shallow vs. deep) are manipulated and as the results indicate, a narrow face with wide chin, down brow ridge, shallow cheekbones and shallow nose sellion is more trustworthy than one with all opposite features. In experiment 2, smiles are added on both faces with trustworthy and untrustworthy features to explore the participant’s subjective and behavioral responses to them. As the results reveal, at first, facial features play exclusive and crucial roles in participant’s feeling and behavior. However, as the interaction goes on, it is better for the face with trustworthy features to smile and the face with untrustworthy features to keep neutral to maintain or even enhance their trustworthiness.
