The main purpose of this study is to investigate the differences between the Xia Huiben and the five Chinese versions of Sukhāvatīvyūha, and to make sure Mei Guangxi’s praise and people’s main criticisms on Xia Huiben is true also objective or not?
This study goes through historical literature and text analysis. Firstly, it introduces the five Chinese versions and Four - Ben "Amitabha Sutra" of the Sukhāvatīvyūha. Secondly, it uses the text analysis to do the text control of the Sukhāvatīvyūha of the five Chinese versions and the Xia Huiben, with the help of CBETA, to find out the original of the Xia Huiben all from the Chinese versions or not. Last, it explains the advantages of the Xia Huiben.
Those who defends Wei version picked up a few words of Master Yin Guang from <the Master Yin Guang Wen Chao> to oppose the Gatherings. Besides, there are some articles in the sanghanet severely criticized the Xia Huiben. This study finds the defenders of Wei version use only few words of Master Yin Guang is garbling. Because Master Yin Guang never oppsed Gatherings. If the opponents of Xia Huiben use Wei version as the only standard to criticize Xia Huiben, they are against the principle of the 「Four according to the law」, in accordance with the meaning of language, not in general.
The words of Xia Huiben are easy but meaningful, fluent and consummate. If you read the Xia Huiben with the five Chinese versions together, you may find Mei Guangxi’s praise appropriate, not over-praised.
