He was demoted to Chaozhou due to his objection to the emperor’s policy on revering Buddhism specifically. In Mid-Tang ages, Chaozhou was an uncivilized territory. After Han Yu was demoted to Chaozhou, he revered Confucianism, developed education, and had a significant effect with culture and education emphasized in Chaozhou which had great contribution to the territory. People in Song dynasty commemorated Han Yu by building a temple and the temple is jam-packed with believers. The Hakka’s ancestors immigrated to Taiwan and formed the areas of Liutui in southern Taiwan in Qing dynasty. Afterwards, the culture transplant from the original town to Taiwan, the Changli Temple was set up and act as the responsibility of local culture and education. Under the cooperation and subsidization with Imperial Examination Foundation, Changli Temple breed many advanced candidates, presented scholars in Qing Dynasty that made Liutui area was famous in flourishing culture and education. In the end of Qing Dynasty, Imperial Examination was abolished and new form school rises, the function of Changli Temple only remain offering sacrifices. Today, Neipu’s Changli Temple holds “The Culture Rite for Han Yu” every year which had become one of the most important activities in Liutui Hakka areas. It makes Han Yu culture continue in Taiwan. It also promotes local economics and Hakka’s culture to pass down. This thesis divides into six chapters including the believe of Wen Chang gods, the location and history of Neipu’s Changli Temple, the brief biography of Han Yu, the architecture of Changli Temple and its function in education and culture, then the summary on the importance of traditional culture passing down through Changli Temple and its “Culture Rite for Han Yu”.
