Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂學系 === 102 === In Bach’s keyboard works, there are different characteristics. The seven toccatas are the classic keyboard works in Bach’s early composing period. It is a kind of free and unique keyboard works. Its characteristic includes the replacement between fantastically extemporaneous periods and fugue movements. And it has the feature to make a display of the performer’s skills. In Toccata, the systems of counterpoint are much more massive, and the variations of chords are relatively abundant. This study discusses in detail Bach’s Toccata in E Minor, BWV 914. First, through the basic understanding of Bach’s biographical sketch and historical background, this study aims to look into Bach’s styles of musical compositions. Second, this study will give a brief introduction to Bach’s three musical periods and composition types, and also aims to portray Bach’s keyboard works and musical styles. Third, this study will introduce the developments in different ages and representative musicians of Toccata. Finally, this study will make analysis of musical composition through Toccata in E Minor, BWV 914. The discussion which is penetrated from its musical materials intends to comprehend the structure of this classic work. By means of analyzing its arrangements of chords and melodies, this study seeks to discuss the main points of its interpretation. The researcher will also bring up her personal viewpoint of interpretation, and give advises on the skill such as style, speed, ornaments and etc. Through this thesis, the researcher would like to achieve a deeply appreciation of performing this master work.
