Since its posthumous first publication in 1990, this Sonata has rapidly become an essential piece of the classical guitar repertoire. Rarely has a piece by an unknown composer such as Antonio José aroused so much interest in the classical guitar world so long after its composition. This Sonata is considered nowadays to be one of the most important guitar sonatas, maybe the most important, written by a Spanish composer in the early 20th century This dissertation tries to explore where the remarkable nature of this Sonata lies. It presents a structural and stylistical analysis of the Sonata, a comparison to two other representative guitar sonatas written by two of Antonio Jose’s contemporaries, a thorough study of the interpretative difficulties the original autographed version presents, a discussion and evaluation of the solutions the new edition´s editor Ricardo Iznaola offers, and alternatives that more closely approximate Antonio José´s original intentions. Through these analyses and comparisons this dissertation attempts to illuminate the Sonata´s value and its significance for the guitar repertoire. Ming-Jian Fang 方銘健 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 217 en_US
