For the Japanese government, how to increase power and influence of content industry in overseas markets to revitalize the country’s economy is one important issue. Though Japan which is a large producer of animation and comic industry has enjoyed a vigorous development in its content industry, this country’s ratio of export of overseas markets has shown a trend in decline over the years. The Japanese Government has worked in a dedicated fashion to revive the country’s economic growth, and increasing the ratio of export for content industry in overseas markets will definitely foster Japan’s economic revitalization. White paper for digital content published by Digital Content Association of Japan in 2012 indicates that Japan’s content industry market including animated films, movies, games, TV shows and books is valued at approx. 12 trillion Yen. Though placing behind the USA, Japan has the world’s second largest content industry in recent one decade. It is clear that content commodities of Japan are popular with overseas, showing that trends in Japanese culture abroad sweep across the globe. In conclusion, this study focuses on the current operation situation of Japan’s most influential overseas animation industry among its cultural industries which can best present the spirit and allure of Japan and its future development. By delving into the status quo of Japan’s animation industry and its future development, this study investigates the current operation situation of Japan’s animation and comic industry and issues facing the industry and predicts future development trends to offer strategic research for directions for future development of animation industry. This study further builds a bridge in cultural industry exchange between Taiwan and Japan.
