Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 心理學系 === 102 === Past research revealed worse performance of the elderly on associative memory, but the exact mechanism is not clear. Aiming at such an issue, this study tends to test the factors of “worse performance of detection capabilities for new items” (Experiment 1 and Experiment 3) and “not being able to learn the association between items” (Experiment 2 and Experiment 3) in the worse performance of the elderly on associative memory. The results show the effects of such two factors on the performance of associative memory of the elderly. In Experiment 1, the elderly present worse detection capabilities for new items that the memory performance with distinct association does not show difference; but, the youths show higher accuracy on the memory performance of new association than old association. In Experiment 3, the elderly appear the worst memory performance on new matches composed of old items, revealing that the elderly could not learn the association between items. Furthermore, it is also discovered that the percentage of new items in the entire stimulus would regulate the elderly detecting new items. The elderly could hardly detect new items when the percentage of new items is high (Experiment 1 and 3). In conclusion, a lot of factors in the performance of the elderly on associative memory require further clarification.
