A Smart Home environment requires service management mechanisms to deal with issues such as service detection, discovery, data transfer and composition. Among these mechanisms, UPnP is a very popular service management protocol, but it is designed based on non-formal HTTP semantics. Hence, UPnP is difficult to be understood, and SOAP, the underlying service invocation protocol has poor performance. According to the problems mentioned above, this thesis presents a method that uses REST software architectural style to improve UPnP, and uses UPnP operation mode to design protocol, we named this protocol ROSA. ROSA characterizes two points, the first is to use the standard method of operation HTTP, providing a unified interface to reduce the development threshold. The second is using RESTful software architectural style to replace SOAP, and then improving performance and reducing server load.
