Among them, Taiwan readjusted large-scale administrative districts to enhance city competitiveness in 2010. One of the administrative districts readjustments is the consolidation of Taichung County and Taichung City. The merge of original city and county creates a new special municipality, also named Taichung City. Because of an extremely low fertility rate compared to other developed countries in the world, the tendency toward depopulation seems to be inevitable in Taiwan. Therefore, the increase of population in cities will definitely depend on migration in the near future. Under these circumstances, whether regional consolidation affects urban competitiveness or vice versa deserves further discussing. This paper discusses the development tendency of Taichung, a newly found city because of regional consolidation. This study first explores the influence of industrial development on the migration of population. It is intended to figure out the factor that affects people’s mobilization because an industry-oriented development has dominated urban distribution in Taiwan for decades. Spatial autocorrelation analysis is then used to investigate the relationship between industrial positioning, economic scope, and net population migration. Industries that are susceptible to population fluctuations are categorized and used to deduce population trends pertaining to this study. Based on this foundation, a preliminary research result demonstrates how population structure affects industrial development and then regional consolidation can further enhance city competitiveness. 劉曜華 劉立偉 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 157 zh-TW
