Summary:碩士 === 大葉大學 === 設計暨藝術學院碩士班 === 102 === ABSTRACT One hundred years ago, Wumile Community in Houbi district of Tainan City was once a substantial village for indigo dyeing industry as well as the center of business and culture in Houbi area. But later on, due to the rise in its peripheral townships and urbanization, the community fell into a decline. In 1988, in order to activate the community and develop local economy through cultural mining and industry development, the Wumile Community started promoting the comprehensive community development and the cultural industries development programs. This study primarily involved a survey, comprised of literature review, depth interviews, and questionnaire survey. The result of the study indicates that the situation of cultural industries promotion in Wumile Community was: (1) Wumile Community has a great diversity of cultural industries and rice cultivation is the most representative; however, economically, rice farmers do not get benefits from the community fame; (2) cultural tourism may bring industrial development to a prosperity but short stay visitors and tourists do not bring business opportunities to most industries in the Community; (3) professional consultants and experts come and provide the Community with their advices and suggestions; decisions are made by few elites; (4) the Community has not built up a common sense even though a comprehensive community development program is there to assist to improve local industrial development; 5) festivals and cultural activities may promote local cultural industries but festivals in Wumile Community cannot gain most residents’ identification; (6) community construction and industrial development in the Community have enhanced the quality of life environment and preserved traditional cultures and increase the numbers of tourists, but, there still remain some issues such as economic function, job opportunity, and benefit sharing to be solved; (7) cultural industries in Wumile Community are full of stories and significance but products of most of cultural industries are not so exquisite and irreplaceable; (8) industries in Wumile Community are mini and beautiful; each industry remains at the stage of self-production-and-marketing; (9) the handicraft business in Wumile Community has not yet established a distinctive local cultural image.
