To conduct a case study of science Pop-up book regarding of the content of scientific knowledge and the visual communication design. Focusing on how Paper engineering are used to express the content and visual styles of these Pop-up books. This design project “The Phases of the Moon” is based on the Chinese astronomy,and the subject is “the Moon”.The main visual design places each period of the moon phases, and represent it by using the tunnel technique on the creation.With lift-and-flap, Pop-up, pull-tabs etc. of Paper engineering to increase variation of the design.Through the blooming watercolor texture with Chinese seal carving,the creation features by fusing two different media of Eastern and Western. With additional related Popular science information and Chinese literature, trying to express scientists’ spirit and culture of the Moon by “The Phases of the Moon”. Hoping to provide a more interactive, fun way not only to convey knowledge and to increase public interest in astronomy, but also to increase understanding of the moon.
