The Caregiving Experience of Primary Family Caregivers of Patients with Motor Neuron Disease

碩士 === 中臺科技大學 === 護理系碩士班 === 102 === This study aimed to explore the experiences of primary family caregivers who care for patients with motor neuron disease (MND). It is a qualitative study using a purposive sampling method to conduct in-depth interviews and collect data. Six participants are primary family caregivers of MND patients from a home care agency in Taichung or introduced by an association of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).Two themes were identified from qualitative data analysis: 1. perceptions of primary caregivers on confronting the situation of patient’s disease; 2. experiences of primary caregivers' on the level of care. According to the result, the study provided the following recommendations：1.to improve nurses’ capabilities regarding knowledge and skills of nursing patients with MND；2. to establish the special unit for patients with MND, and educate primary family caregiver to become more handful regarding care; 3. the government agency should help MND association to set up a care house for patients with MND, and provide better care for patients and their caregivers; 4. to conduct a research to explore the experience of caregiving from patients’ viewpoint. The finding of this study can provide as references for clinical professionals and related social organization and can contribute to better medical care and related services to promote care quality of patients with MND and their family caregivers.
