Summary: | 碩士 === 中山醫學大學 === 心理學系暨臨床心理學碩士班 === 102 === The aim of study was to examine the mediating effects of conflict attitude between adult attachment and conflict coping style. We hypothesized that the adult attachment and cognition factor(conflict attitude) toward romantic conflict would influence on conflict coping style. Participants were surveyed by paper and website questionnaire, totally 722 adult with romantic experience completed Experiences in close relationships (ECR), Conflict Attitude and the Rahim Organization Conflict Inventory-II (ROCI-II). The results are following:
1. In conflict coping style, male preferred to choose the Integrating, Avoiding, Compromising and Obliging style; female preferred to perform the Dominating style on romantic conflict.
2. Both the attachment avoidance and anxiety can predict the negative conflict attitude and conflict coping style. Positive or negative conflict attitude can significantly predict different conflict coping style.
3. The mediating effect of conflict attitude was shown between adult attachment and conflict coping style on romantic conflict: the attachment avoidance could be mediated by negative conflict attitude to impact on the conflict coping style. In other word, conflict attitude could affect the participants with high attachment avoidant to perform more strategies of the Integrating coping style, and negative conflict attitude could also affect the participants with high attachment anxiety to perform more strategies of the Avoiding and Obliging coping style.
4. In adult attachment, the conflict attitude and conflict coping style could predict the different extent to the duration of romantic relationship, degree of intimacy and level of satisfaction towards conflict management.
As a result, according to our findings, we suggest that the cognitive change technique can be used in the intervention, such as gender education and couple therapy. Particularly for people with high attachment avoidant, enhancing the advantages and reducing the defects of romantic conflict would make participants to confront the conflict circumstance. In contrast, people with high attachment anxiety can mediate the inappropriate coping strategies by shifting and adjusting negative attitude toward romantic conflict.
