The purpose of this study was to explore the feelings and perception of self-concept of older nursing home residents. This qualitative study adopted purposive sampling. The in-depth interview was used to collect data from 11 older residents living in a nursing home in Taichung city. Following each interview, the recorded data were transcribed verbatim for content analysis. The transcripts were analyzed according to the data analyzing steps proposed by Tesch. The results revealed four categories: being trapped with worry; being harmonious and enlightened; being still hopeful; being worse off than some, better off than many.
