Summary: | 碩士 === 中國醫藥大學 === 護理學系碩士班 === 102 === For older adults, relocating to long-term care institutions is a major turning point in life. They face changes of living environment, daily life patterns, social networks, and support systems. These changes further impact old residents’ feelings and perspectives of selves. The purpose of this study was to explore the feelings and perception of self-concept of older nursing home residents. This qualitative study adopted purposive sampling. The in-depth interview was used to collect data from 11 older residents living in a nursing home in Taichung city. Following each interview, the recorded data were transcribed verbatim for content analysis. The transcripts were analyzed according to the data analyzing steps proposed by Tesch. The results revealed four categories: being trapped with worry; being harmonious and enlightened; being still hopeful; being worse off than some, better off than many. The results of this study can serve as references for nursing home personnel in promoting the positive life motivation of older adults. The findings can also be used for future research references.
