Research background:
In Taiwan, accompany with the raise of across-marriage, the number of immigrant women have been increasing and become the fifth group. They have been facing many challenges such as acculturation, language, personal relationship and life adaptation.
Research purpose:
The purpose of this qualitative research aims to understand the social networks of a group of immigrant women who attended a social welfare organization in Tainan.
Research method:
Purposive sampling seven immigrant women who can communicate with Mandarin Chinese or Taiwanese, came from East Asian or main-lain China, and also an active member of this social welfare organization. Data were collected from single or repeated face-to-face audio-recording interview.
Research results
1.After the immigrant women join the courses and activities, most of them develop diverse social networks. The wideness and density of social networks underpins personal characteristic, the time and efforts which the immigrant women fling themselves into, and their positions on group; The more extroverted personality the more time they probably spends on it. The more close to core position, the wilder social network they could have, vice versa. 2.After the immigrant women join social welfare organization, the changes in social networks the it cause within family, friends, colleague, neighbors and others can be classified as following type: “total involvement”, “positive-living”, “information-benefited”, “loyally involved”, “Apply what one have learned”, “skill-making” and “get- independent action .”
