It’s an important research topic to develop a cars and motorcycles mixed traffic flow model so as to understand and analyze the characteristics of mixed traffic. Generally, passenger car equivalent(PCE) is employed to deal with the heterogeneous traffic flow. Each kind of vehicle is represented by a PCE, which is a fix value. In this study, we consider using a fix value as PCE to describe the driving behavior of motorcycle is inappropriate. Also, a multi-regime model is complicate to combine with traffic optimization model. Therefore, we develop a single regime cars and motorcycles mixed traffic flow model and calibrate the coeggicients of the model by empirical data. The model presents a better agreement with the empirical data than related models. No matter which PCE is used, the calibration result is almost the same, which means the model is insensitive to the value of PCE. Our model is a smooth and continuous function, which is differentiable. Therefore, it can be subsitituted into traffic optimization model and can easily be solved. In this study, we only use the data of three-lane road to analyze the model. Analyses of traffic data of different geometry and lane use of roads are left for further researches.
