The medical cost is increasing which is also influenced by the ageing population. Cerebral degeneration diseases are the most common amongst the elderly. With the use of western medicine, the process of which the disease develops can be postponed. However, as the disease gets worse, it will become a great burden to the family, the health care system and the whole society. This study investigates the prevalence rate, fatality rate and medical expenses of cerebral degeneration disease. Data from the annual national health insurance census and death registration from the years 1998 to 2010 were analyzed. It revealed that age composition, and prevalence rate are the main factors affecting medical expenditure. Population aging and morbidity expansion are the main factors contributing to an increase in the medical expenditure of cerebral degeneration.
