碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 台灣文學研究所 === 102 === Abstract Mazu the deity has many followers in Taiwan, countless temples are dedicated to her. This article uses "Xiliu Fusing Temple" as a case study to analyze the history of the temple, the local environment of Xilius region, community, indsutry and their interaction as well as influence with each other. Chou-Shui Creek and plains in the environment help shape the features of local community, with Xiluo Seven Inlays （not sure） as the main defense mechanism, and Fusing Temple serving as the religious center, together with a long history of Taiping Mazo procession that help boost local prosperity. The construction of Xiluo Bridge, the reconstruction done after earthquakes and during the Japanese colonial period together produce the features of Taiping historic district with its characteristic historic bildings, and well laid out street lines, parapets and sculptures---witnesses to Xiluo's glorious history. Fusing Temple to this day still sits at the center of urban developmet. When freeways and railroads bypassed Xiluo, the city district suffered a decline. However, recently the rise of cultural and creative industry, the combination of historic streets, cultural creative commodities and local industries brings about an inventive change rooted in tradition while Taiping Mazu still plays an important role in ofeering spiritual comforts to local residents. At the end, this article explains the layout of deities in Fusing Temple, and temple organizations.
