| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 中國文學系暨研究所 === 102 === This thesis is based on “the generation scholar has the adversity” in the novel chock , and take the " adversity " as the cut-in point to observe the interaction between the characters and the environment in the novel, and in which emerges the various types of " adversity ", also reflecting the difficult living of the characters, and thereby to investigate the topic meaning of the “Ju Lin Wai Shih”.
Through interpreting and analyzing the circumstances of the novel, we can know that the behaviors of the admitted person , the already admitted person and the indifferent scholarly honor person in the imperial field, literary circles, officialdom and village, are suffered pull and drag between personal value and society value, that make them can't act completely in accordance with the will of their own, or have the error individual behavior, and in the eventually, all of them are encountered the “adversity” in succession. In order to rescue the literati's morality, the indifferent scholarly honor person establish ritual and music systems, but the Tai Bo Temple's collapse reflects the difficulties of ideology of ritual and music, and this “adversity” is the most deeply. People who avoid “adversity”, maybe harmony or arrogant, all insist on individual value to resist the harassment of social value. According to the interaction between the not admitted person, the already admitted person, the indifferent scholarly honor person, and the avoid “adversity” person with the environment, we understand that the way of life which “Ju Lin Wai Shih” wants to highlight is also the main meaning of the novel.
