Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 社會暨政策科學學系 === 101 === This study has employed 12 highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers aged between 30 to 50 as its targets of research, and the methodology of in-depth interview is exploited to investigate the substantive content of the marriage concept among highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers , thus helping to demonstrate the authentic ideas with regard to the meaning of marriage, the feelings of single, the impact of the past experience of unmarried and the expect to the ideal life partner. Afterwards, it will make use of ecosystem theory, social learning theory, and social exchange theory to analyze the factors that affect establishment of marriage concept of highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers. As indicated from the study, it is found that the meaning of marriage can be found into social aspect, psychology aspect, economic, biological aspect, and legal aspect for highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers. For highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers, the research finds they divided the meaning of marriage into some aspects. The meaning of marriage in social aspects is not only to follow social norms but also to doubt the necessity of marriage. The meaning of marriage in psychological aspects is not only to stabled the life and soul but also to worry about the psychological pressure of marriage. In economic aspects, although they are focusing on economic considerations ,they worry about the worse quality of living after marriage. The meaning ofmarriage in biological aspects is to breed the coming generation in order to compose a whole family,but satisfaction of sexual need is not necessarily by marriage. In law aspects, marriage confirms offspring’s legal status, but relegate to the form.The feelings of highly-educated and unmarried single female teachers are in the dilemma between the enjoyment of freedom and fear of loneliness. And the impact of the past experience of unmarried is their life context: parents' marriage is the solution of marriage learning objects, personal experience affect the future business of marriage and the significant other’s marital status affect their perception of marriage. In the position of sexual role, they feel the pressure and help for traditional sexual roles ,and still agree with the basic principle, “Husbands works outside,and wives stay at home”.They think the modern man is must to saying and doing and emphasize couples mind fit and communication.
