Faced with the problem of low fertility at all levels of educational institutes, schools effectively changed their business models. With these changes, do teachers’ attitudes toward continuing education also change when facing different work demands? There are four goals of this study: 1) determining the influence of work demands on teachers, 2) determining the influence of work uncertainty on teachers’ professionalism, 3) determining the degrees of change in teachers’ work performance when facing work demands, and 4) determining the influence of work demands on teachers’ pursuing continuing education. The study subjects include 260 teachers in 12 traditional and vocational high schools in the metropolitan areas of Taipei. It uses quantitative method to collect and analyze data. The findings of this study are summarized below. 1. Significantly increased correlation between work uncertainty and work demand: the higher the uncertainty the greater the work load and the pressure on work demand in emotion and time. 2. Significantly negative effect of work demands on professionalism: the higher the demand the lower the work attitude and devotion. 3. Positive correlation between professionalism and teachers’ motivation in pursuing continuing education and its effectiveness. 4. No correlation between work demands and teachers’ motivation in pursuing continuing education and its effectiveness. Wen-Yeh Huang 黃文曄 學位論文 ; thesis 75 zh-TW
