Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 神經科學研究所 === 101 === Introduction: Deficits of emotion perception is critical to social cognition and communication in patients. Previous studies demonstrated that schizophrenia showed the deficits of auditory emotion recognition. However, the neural mechanism of auditory emotion perception in schizophrenia still remains unclear. Method: we investigated the pre-attentive vocal emotion perception in schizophrenia by comparing the differences of mismatch negativity (MMN) responses between 30 patients with schizophrenia and 30 match controls to emotional voices and the corresponding non-vocal sound. Result: Patients with schizophrenia exhibited the impairment in detecting emotional syllables and non-vocal sound. However, this impairment was only observed in the case of angry voice and angry-derived deviants. Furthermore, emotional P3a amplitudes measured in patients with schizophrenia were larger than matched controls, whereas opposite results was observed as for non-vocal P3a amplitudes. Finally, the correlation analysis suggested that schizophrenic patients with severer positive symptoms tend to display smaller amplitudes of angry MMN. Conclusion: patients with schizophrenia exhibited the impairment in detecting emotional syllables and non-vocal sound in the case of angry voice and angry-derived deviants in pre-attentive state. Furthermore, emotional P3a amplitudes measured in patients with schizophrenia were larger than matched controls, which might be correlated to their deficits in selective attention control to emotional stimuli. Finally, the correlation analysis suggested that schizophrenic patients with severer positive symptoms tend to display the difficulties in distinguishing angry and neutral voices in the pre-attentive state.
