Summary: | 碩士 === 文藻外語學院 === 華語文教學研究所 === 101 === The study aimed at investigating the course design, instruction processes and effects of a short-term Chinese learning program incorporating Chinese picture books on foreign students’ motivation of learning Chinese. The study employed action research method with analyses of a variety of data from different perspectives, including teacher observations, interviews and feedback questionnaires of teachers and students, worksheets, expert feedbacks and teacher’s teaching reflection logs. Twelve foreign students of a short-term Chinese program by a Chinese learning center of a college were involved in the study. The program lasted for 3 weeks. Before and after the treatments of Chinese instructions incorporating Chinese picture books, pre-study and post-study attitude questionnaires were distributed to understand the effects of the program on students’ Chinese learning motivation. Based on data from teacher’s reflection logs, observations, teaching recording, student worksheet performances and student interviews, students’ learning progresses were analyzed and discussed. Accordingly, the short-term Chinese program with Chinese picture books enhanced students’ learning motivation and interests in Chinese learning. The study also discussed the course design model, material development and relevant problems of the short-term Chinese learning program. It is expected that the research findings could provide reference and significant contributions to the related fields of Chinese teaching, learning and research as well as the course designs of short-term Chinese learning programs. In addition, the action research method employed in this study could enhance professional development of Chinese teachers and their teaching effectiveness by involving teachers in cycles of reflective teaching.
