Description
Summary:碩士 === 環球科技大學 === 環境資源管理所 === 101 === According to the research reports by Dr. Tseng’s team, TransWorld University, up to 74.5 % of the residents in Mailiao Township suffered from air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution brought by Formosa’s Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex. Therefore, to promote mental health and environmental risk education, this study aimed to explore and explain the harm and negative influence on local residents’ physical and mental conditions after the operation of Formosa’s Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex. Four questionnaires were used in this study: Chinese Health Questionnaire, Life Meaning Scale, Traumatic Exposure Index, and Screening Scale of Pressure-related Psychological Conditions. The results indicated that local residents in Mailiao Township suffered greater negative influence and stress than those who lived 20 kilometers away. In Chinese Health Questionnaire, 70.8% of local residents in Mailiao Township felt headache. In Life Meaning Scale, 70% of local residents stated that they usually smelled odor from Formosa’s Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex. In Traumatic Exposure Index, 43.1% of local residents felt great impact on their lives after the operation of Formosa’s Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex. And in Screening Scale of Pressure-related Psychological Conditions, 42.2% of local residents indicated they suffered from either insomnia or hypersomnia every day last month. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the government should put more resources and efforts into ensuring people’s health.
