Its patients account for over 4% of world population. Due to a change of dining and sleeping habits, the patients have become younger and younger along the time. These facts have made the medical care of this disease more and more important. Telemedicine care, originated from developed countries, is fostered by the development of information technology. Not like the traditional outpatient service and hospitalization care, telemedicine provides a continuous and convenient care. Taiwan is currently in the starting stage of telemedicine. This thesis studies the current status, including performance, problems, and needs, of diabetes telemedicine in Taiwan by using interview, questionnaire, and data mining methods. Results indicate that (1) the data uploading frequency from patients is quite stable except during important holiday seasons, (2) medical care personnel generally agrees that the telemedicine helps the patients doing self-management and controlling the blood sugar, but not without reservation for beginners, and (3) patients suggest that the electronic and blood sugar measurement instruments have to be easy to operate and there should be voice function to help the elderly people. The results of this research will help the Taiwan telemedicine industry in modifying and developing their products. Hong-Ming Lin 林鴻明 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 51 zh-TW
