The purpose of this study was to indentify the impact of narcissistic personality and achievement of goals on sports performance in the social loafing scenario. There were 60 ball sports athletes from a Taipei physical education college as the experimental participants, the scale for narcissistic personality, the scale for achievement of goals, and the sports performance from three rope jumping tests were conducted in this study. After collecting the various data and test data,, The statistical package software of SPSS for Windows 12.0 Chinese version was used in data processing. The sorting, coding, scoring, and logging on were immediately carried out, and the data obtained underwent data processing through the statistical methods of descriptive statistics, mixed two-way ANOVA. The results show that:
1. Social loafing had a main effect on narcissistic personality. Those with high narcissists (M=22.43) were more likely to produce social loafing compared to those with low narcissists (M=7.82). 2. Narcissistic personality had a main effect on sports performance. Those with high narcissists (M=22.43) showed better sports performance compared to those with low narcissists (M=7.82). 3. Situations with a high degree of recognition produce a significantly positive impact on narcissistic personality, but it had no significant impacts on achievement of goals.
4. Significant interactions existed between social loafing and narcissistic personality.The research results shall serve as a reference for team sports coaches in order to propose the future research direction of social loafing and personality traits in sports situations.
