The variations of these indicators were analyzed through statistical tools, in order to investigate whether or not the physical fitness for the elderly would be improved. Based on the researcher’s empirical coaching experiences in physical fitness, observation and interviews were conducted to reinforce exploration and to validate the statistical analysis.
The findings indicate that the lower limb strength, lower limb flexibility, upper limb strength, cardiovascular endurance, static balance, and dexterity of the elderly are significantly improved through the square stepping training. In other words, the influence of square stepping exercise on physical fitness for the elderly proved to be positive.
In addition, the square stepping exercise can enhance cognition and the ability to prevent falls of the elderly according to the video and interviews analyzed data. Localization of the implementation to different culture is suggested, in order to make the exercise more suitable for the users and to achieve better improvement. This suggestion can be taken into consideration when promoting the square stepping exercise in the future.
