In 1998, Taiwan proudly brought home 6 gold medals using the new bowling method introduced as “Spinning Ball” at the Bangkok Asian Games. Unfortunately, Taiwan was not able to repeat the victory in the Asia Games for the following three years. No one seemed to have the answer or to comprehend why. The objective of this thesis was to explore the development and history of bowling in Taiwan. What connections there might be between the ups and downs. How and if the “spinning ball kingdom” was viewed internationally. Did any of the above factors have any impact to the standing of Taiwan’s performance in the international bowling events? The methodology adopted in this thesis was oral history research method. First, to introduce and present the developmental situation and environment before Bowling Association was founded in a story telling way. Secondly, to perform a detail data analysis with all historical information collected and then to divide findings into four phases to better appreciate and realize changes and impacts. To conclude the findings, it came down to three key areas that require attention and adjustment. These three key areas included introducing Bowling Association and its relationship worldwide; spinning ball and international competitive events and domestic environment. These were the key transformation points that require immediate focus as in order to have a chance to bring home gold medals in any future Asian competitions and in Olympics. Taiwan must train and develop athletes; to improve the environment and to increase its involvement in international competitive events as well as to improve and develop its relationship internationally.
