Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 鋼琴合作藝術研究所 === 101 === “ The Butterfly Lovers ” is a popular legend that has been retold for thousands years in China. It is a story about a pair of tragic lovers. In 1959, Chinese composers Ho Zhan Han and Chen Kang composed a violin concerto “The Butterfly Lovers” based on this legend. This concerto is a single-movement concerto, using materials from the Yue-ju opera of the same title. As a collaborative pianist, one should know how to play an orchestral reduction score of a concert. One also needs to understand the compositional background of the work, as well as the unique characteristics of the solo instrument. Different arrangers might produce different renditions of the same composition. It is up to the collaborative pianist to choose the edition that produces the best effects. In this thesis, two editions of “The Butterfly Lovers” will be compared: the original orchestral version and the piano version. The author will discuss how to produce the most appropriate sound for each instrument in the orchestra from the piano, and hopefully, provide some useful points for future pianists when preparing this works for performance.
