An action research approach was conducted in the study, and the researcher who as a designer and a teacher used the artworks of Dr. Ma Bai-Sui as guided works. The lessons of line and stroke which were adopted into four units of color ink-painting teaching; moreover, discussions、reflections and modifications were made through the progress. There were tests after each unit which were designed based on students’ feedback, and the results were analyzed to explore the applicability of line and stroke in color ink-painting instruction for fifth grade. Based on the findings of the study, conclusions were summed up as follows: 1. After the instruction, the fifth grade students learned to use the line and stroke skills in color ink-painting. 2. The students learned to use the line and stoke skills in color ink-painting sketching. 3. After the instruction, there were distinct improvement in students’ work, and the students indicated interests and confidence. 4. Several suggestions were presented according to the results of the study: (1) The expression of line and stroke could increase the range of creation. (2) The expression of line and stroke could expand multiple manifestations of color ink-painting. (3) Students can learn the expression of line and stroke based on living experiences. (4) Implementing multiple instructional strategies could increase multiple expressions in the line and stroke. (5) Society sources could be used to increase the contents of the expression of line and stroke.
