The study aims to probing into the general gifted and talented graduated students of the 11th and 12th class of Pucian Elementary School in New Taipei City, thereby to understand the influence on current condition, career development and the gifted program as well as the outcome of gifted program, in addition to analyzing the self-reflections, future objectives and views towards gifted program. The research objects comprised 11 people, using self-prepared “Interview outline for General Graduated Gifted and Talented Graduated Students from Pucian Elementary School in New Taipei City” as a tool. The data collected underwent qualitative analysis to attain the following research conclusions:
1. Most graduated students have maintained successful learning course, graduated with degrees in public and private universities or graduate schools. Some of the graduated students eventually acquire PhD degree.
2. Most graduated students already employed are engaged in professional jobs while few of them are entrepreneurs.
3. Most graduated students demonstrate outstanding performance in logic, mathematics and physics. These students also achieve better language proficiency as a student of the talented program. With regards to personality traits, more than half of the graduated students believe to be efficient.
4. Their parents’ attitudes differentiated with adoption of liberal, democratic, supporting or strict parenting respectively.
5. The key factors affecting the career development of graduated students include: (1) Family, whereas parents play the key role. (2) School, whereas the teachers play the key influence. (3) Individual and society.
6. Graduated students perceive positive impact from gifted program in terms of learning dimension, which mainly consists of “knowledge-oriented depth and breadth of learning and independent research,” “Innovative thinking, critical thinking and problem-solving” and “cultivating attitudes in initiating learning and inspiring diverse interests.”
7. Most graduated students are satisfied with their current living conditions and they believe to have accomplished objectives at this stage and are compatible with the work. The element that mainly affects their future objectives and plans are mainly family members.
8. Most graduated students would still enroll in a gifted program if they could start over. They would also encourage their own children to take such program and believe that the elementary schools should set up the gifted program with emphasis on character education and improvement to establish a good channel for teacher interactions. Most of the graduated students perceive satisfaction for the outcome.
The conclusion and recommendation drawn from the results will be used as reference for education related agencies, gifted program teachers, gifted students, and future researchers.
