Using fifth grade students as study subjects. Content analysis, questionnaire, and focus group interview are used to understand the usage and anyalysis the advantages and disadvantages of the functional design of current student version English e-textbooks. Lastly, this study concludes the functional architecture of the elementary school student version English e-textbooks for future development. The results show: I.Functional design of student version English e-textbooks A.The basic design of e-textbooks in Taiwan is developing and not fully mature. B.The design mostly focuses on multimedia resource, evaluation, and rewards, but lacks tools for annotation. II.Feature usage of student version English e-textbooks A.Most students have used the e-textbooks, but the usage frequency is low. B.E-textbooks can assist English learning C.The game evaluation feature is most popular with students. Its usage frequency and helpfulness are rated the highest. D.Girls use the various features more often and find them more helpful. E.Without the proper environment and validation mechanism, most students won't self-study. III.Missing features of student version English e-textbooks A.Most student hope e-textbooks have the highlighter, pen and eraser such as annotation functions. B.Most student hope e-textbooks have the some features of elementary school teacher version e-textbooks. C.Girls have higher demand for missing features.
