The article expounds on the author’s creation of “Huan Shi” (浣石) series from 2010 to 2013 and aims to explore the possibility of the landscape painting in the 21st century through this work.
In the creation, the author conducted a long-term observation and multi-angle analysis on a variety of stones and read the literature on the exploration of the current “world” by the existing geology, astronomy, etc., with an attempt to construct a visual atmosphere of the work by the mutual dialectic of objective and subjective perception and to convey the author’s understanding of this world through the work.
Besides discussing the content of work, the author painted on silk material for a long time so as to illustrate the meaning of the painting in addition to the visual impact. Apart from exercising the creative technique, the author also appreciated and read classical paintings(especially the landscape paintings prior to the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) )in order to pursue and position his own creation.
The first part is preface, in which the author narrates the creation motivation and background and reflects on the cultural awareness of the author’s environment through the experience living in Europe. The second part is the exposition of the creation, which links personal creation and historical context by reading and analyzing classical literature and classical pictures and describes the creating methods and process of the work. The third part illustrates the commentary and development of the work, which are the introduction, analysis and description of the work itself. It also gives a brief introduction of exhibition layout, works link, mounting method, and so on. Finally, the conclusion part discusses and summarizes the process and learning of the creation to find out the possibility of future development.
