Taiwan bed and breakfast (B&B) accommodation industry is now facing with the succession issues after its rapid developments in last two decades. This study conducted 16 in-depth interviews with B&B operators to explore the succession types and related influential factors. The results showed that the B&B succession types can be classified by two dimensions, property ownership and building usage. First, from the point of view of property ownership, the B&B succession types includes four modes: (1) property owned – B&B usage; (2) property owned - ending the B&B operation, (3) Rental - entrust others to operate, (4) transferring the ownership of property - sold to others. Second, from the building usage point of view, the building will be: children succession, employee succession, to hire a housekeeper, commissioned operation, and resale operation patterns. Therefore the building continues to operate as hostel; additionally, buildings in the business by the end of the operation, with its self-occupied, idle, destruction, for other uses, rental after the business transformation by others, or sell the land after the retiring operator, resulted in the case of loss of natural, and the building is out of hostel business permanently. Moreover, this study also summarized six factors that influence the B&B succession decisions. 1) Operator’s personal factors; 2) family structure; 3) Operating factor; 4) location factors; 5) Social network factors, and 6) Policy and market factors. Among all, business operator’s personal factor and policy & market factors have greater impacts on B&B succession decisions.
