Summary:碩士 === 亞洲大學 === 資訊工程學系碩士在職專班 === 101 === The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of a multimedia American Sign Language (ASL) software on helping kindergarten students in Taiwan learning ASL and English. The software was developed by Professor Jing-Ming Ju of Taiwan Asia University. The multimedia software includes ASL manual alphabet, initialized signs, and colored English words with voice. A total of 27 kindergarten students from a kindergarten in Taichung participated in the study. Their achievement in sign language recognition and English alphabets and words was assessed. Learning of manual alphabet was found to be helpful for learning English alphabet and learning of initialized signs was found to be helpful for learning English words. Assisted by the multimedia ASL software, students’ spelling of English words improved more than two times from pretest to post test.
