In hospitals, the one who interacts with patients most frequently and who has a great effect on their emotion as well as illness condition is the nursing staff. Moreover, reasons like working overtime, dealing with trivial job content, meeting complex scheduling problems, being on duty even in holidays, and getting unhealthier and more pressure on account of work are recognized as factors that lead to nurses’ poorer working performance. Scheduling issues have greater impact on the staff working quality among the elements above. Nurses would be in better mood once they are satisfied with the shifting outcome and could rest enough, then they could deliver patients the better service. The majority of hospitals adopt manual scheduling, yet, such approach takes managers too much time and might bring about argument as staff is not content with the shifting result. In order to improve the concern, technology should be taken advantages of.
As a result, the research conducts a case study on the scheduling issue of nurses in an operation room, developing a system with VBA of Excel. A hospital in Tainan would be chosen as a research background. Furthermore, interviews in person with the nurses would be held so as to help analyze the factors that might influence the shifting result and help managers deal with scheduling problems more efficiently and accurately. Meanwhile, tests and adaptations will be carried out for decreasing the mistakes and errors that might happen.
