The main purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of Type A personality and stress coping strategies on the overwork phenomenon for the faculty members. This study was examined by questionnaire analyses. The main population was focused on the full-time teachers in Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The total 554 copies were issued and were 255 valid questionnaires retrieved. The retrieved questionnaire data were analyzed statistically by SPSS for Windows 18.0 software package of the Chinese version. This study was carefully investigated by means of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis methods. The results were concluded as follows. Type A personality has a positive influence on the overwork phenomenon. However, stress coping strategies have a negative influence for the overwork phenomenon. It is worthwhile to note that stress coping strategies possess a moderating effect between Type A personality and the overwork phenomenon. Based on the aforementioned, university organization should predominate the teachers' personality traits and specific pressure factors to adjust teaching loading and work allocation moderately. Some suggests will be given in the future research to effectively reduce the teachers overwork phenomenon, enhance job satisfaction and teaching performance as well as physical and mental health. The conclusions could be used as a reference for further research.
