碩士 === 國防大學政治作戰學院 === 心理碩士班 === 101 === The aims of this research are to examine the dual model of meaning in life (Wang, 2012) and the effects of independent self and interdependent self on meaning in life. Wang（2012）proposed that meaning in life contains two subconstructs: “Purpose in life”（PIL）and “connection with others”（CWO）. However, evidences form Wang’s study did not fully support the dual model. This research extends Wang’s study by improving the measurement of dual meaning in life, and examining the effects of independent self and interdependent self on PIL and CWO. The current study hypothesized that the relationship between independent self and PIL will be stronger than CWO, and relationship between interdependent self and CWO will be stronger than PIL. Two studies were conducted（Study1, N = 259；Study2, N = 250）. The results show that the construct validity of “the dual model of meaning in life” was partially supported. Confirmatory factor analysis shows that PIL and CWO are two different constructs. However, the relationships of both independent and interdependent with PIL are stronger than those with CWO.
