The symbolic symphonic poem composed by Steven Reineke consists of 5 chapters and was inspired by the German novel “Die Hexe und die Heilige” written by Ulrike Schweikert. This symphonic poem, which was inspired by the novel “Die Hexe und die Heilige” written by German author Ulrike Schweikert, is later translated into English “The witch and the saint.” Steven Reineke was born on September 14th 1970 in Ohio, and is currently living in New York City. He learned trumpet at an early age and received his degree in trumpet study at Miami University in Ohio. Steven Reineke has an active presence as a composer and conductor in the US since 1995. Furthermore, he also serves as the music director for the New York Pops with works mainly consist of orchestral and symphonic band music. Reineke’s work includes orchestral, symphonic band, pop music and sound tracks for movies. Because of his active involvement in music, he’s been composing some of the greatest music pieces, which serves high level of educational purpose for general orchestras, as well as for orchestras in junior high schools, senior high schools and universities. The symphonic poem “The witch and the saint” composed by Reineke is both exhilarating and inspiring. Both musicians and listeners can quickly immerse in the beauty of the music. Thus, the author would like to analyze the style, orchestration, chord and the story of “The witch and the saint” to achieve the level of standard and expectation set by the composer.
