| Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會學系 === 101 === Under the impact of modernity, the traditional form collapses, family declines and other crisis emerges, but Christian parents still uphold the "Bible" principle to preserve family. These parents are printed by the upbringing concept of original family and traditional culture, but when facing Christian, on one hand the upbringing problems arose by social changes are partially solved, on the other hand the collision of faith and communications are difficult to avoid between Chinese traditional culture and Christianity. From microscopic surface of daily life, the paper attempts to explore the role of faith on Chinese Christian parents when they educate their children, such as how they interpret the meaning of home, how to use the meaning in children education and what’s the role and significance of the faith for Chinese Christian religious community. These parents grow up in traditional culture condition.
The research method is in-depth qualitative interview.15 pairs of Christian parents, who have at least two children and at least one of them is in college or graduated are interviewed. The main findings of the study can be summarized as follows: First, with social changes, the concept of modern parents are influenced by Westernized trend, but in terms of Chinese parenting concept, the continuity of traditional Chinese culture still occupies a pivotal position. Second, the sanctity of religion provides solutions for modern parents when they face dilemma in child education, religion becomes a parenting adjustment mechanism. Third, in face of conflict between Chinese traditional culture and Christian faith, parents are the family initial learners. Understand of their faith and own culture is the solution.
