It has been a dialectical issue that whether in the classroom professors should take into account the preparation for licensing examination or could they teach simply for the own sake of high education. However, in search for the answer, if we do not set off in the context of original development of education of social work, but jump directly to the theme of deciding future direction, we could easily affected by the current political struggle or fall into the trap of repeating past experiences . There has always been a strong connection between department of Sociology and Social Work in Taiwan. Not until 2002 that Social Work came as an independent department in high education, Social Work was just a division under Sociology since its birth at 1960. In spite of this, the intersection of the two subjects and the factors for defining the current canon of Social Work are rarely mentioned. This thesis sets out to explore the meaning of Sociology in the context of Social Work. Two main points are inspected here: Firstly, as high education nowadays has been seen as a human resource, how does the knowledge that is imparted transform into students’ ideologies, statuses and roles. Secondly, as “deny the familiarized” being put by Peter Burke, in order to avoid seeing the constructed common sense as an eternal verity, and avoid seeing one direction that is biased by other factors as a true spirit, we need to dig down into the whys and wherefores of a discipline.
