In this thesis, we first study the mutual coupling effects on self-impedance of the MIMO antenna, which is a five-element microstrip closely coupled linear array. Well agreement in the comparison between measured and simulated results validates the effectiveness of the numerical analysis for further studying the mutual coupling effects on MIMO system performance. Second, we propose a far-field calibration procedure -- phase rotation method (PRM). EM-based numerical validation proves its effectiveness as an alternative to the near-field test range employing at ground-based area due to its accuracy, simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and easy to implement.
