Recently the oil and electricity issues remind us to appreciate the precious natural resources. Taiwan is located in subtropical area. Summers are hot and humid. There is large demand for air conditions. Air conditioning equipments are general necessities to the public. Air-condition electricity account is quite large when compared with the total household electricity consumption. In this study, the compressor starting timing was determined by detecting appropriate voltage range with specially designed detection circuit (Schmitt trigger). When the sun rises and becomes strong enough and the solar cell panel output power reaches 30V, the compressor starts running with driving power from the solar cell panel. In our designed system, when the sun is obscured by clouds suddenly, the instability of electricity output of solar panel will not lead to the compressor power supply unstable (we use super capacitors to save the electricity power). If the compressor power supply becomes unstable, there is a risk of burning the compressor. When the sunlight is weak, the output power of solar cell panel decreases below 27V, the circuit will stop compressor to operate. This is to protect the load (compressor). In this study, we directly use natural energy to drive the air condition’s compressor with specially designed circuit, which improves the performance of air-condition and increases energy utilizing rates.
